Today I want to discuss about good post workout meal options. There are many of them, but I have my favourite ones.
1. Protein shake: Usually when I cannot eat anything that contains protein straight after work-out, I simply opt for a protein shake. The important thing here is to choose one that has high amount of protein, low carbs and low fat. I usually buy a protein shake that has between 25-30 gram of protein and only 3 gram of carbs.
2. Whole meal containing both protein & carbs: I eat the whole meal 1 hour after my workout, if possible. If it´s late evening, I just have a shake and some fruit. I normally try to balance food that is rich both in protein and healthy carbs. For instance, chicken or salmon with salad and cooked vegetables or salad with quinoa, which is a great source of protein. I do this only when I have time to prepare the meal myself or if it´s not too late in the evening.
3. Healthy snacks: When I want to have something nutritional after doing exercise and I want to take advantage of proper muscle recovery, I grab a cottage cheese which contains lots of protein; I usually eat it with vegetables such as carrot, bell pepper, tomato or with apple and handful of nuts or seeds. It keeps me full for a long time. Canned tuna with freshly squeezed lemon juice is a great option too! And there are many others. If it´s not too late, I´d also go for egg omelette with some veggies 🙂
There are many other options you can snack on after your workout. This was just my suggestion on a healthy post workout meal or snacks you can prepare easily. It´s important that you eat something after your workout. Post-workout meal should not be forgotten!
